Debbie Perez

Producer (Puerto Rico)

Debbie Perez is an award-winning Puerto Rican writer/producer exploring narratives centering afrolatinx stories. She produced the animated shortfilm Nuevo Rico, an afro-indigenous story set in a dystopian world, that won numerous awards in 2020/21. Passionate about exploring Caribbean stories, she’s developing films never before seen in cinema. In 2022, she produced a shortfilm about Yemaya, one of the African Orishas, which received the Netflix/LALIFF grant supporting afrolatinx filmmakers. This year she completed production on a shortfilm about a black revolutionary in 1930s Puerto Rico- MATARON A PEDRO. Recipient of the Jerome Foundation Grant.
