Indio Melendez is a Nuyorican actor, writer, poet, educator and visual artist. He was born in Williamsburg, Brooklyn and raised in Washington Heights. He currently resides in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico.
A Desert Storm Veteran and a graduate of Lehman College, Magna Cum Laude, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work.

Indio was honored with the 2014, Union City, New Jersey, Jose de Diego Distinguished Puerto Rican Award by Mayor Brian P. Stack for his artistic contributions.
Indio was awarded Top prize- “Best Play” for his play “Indiosyncrasy” 2011 Downtown Urban Theater-The first time a one man show won this prestigious award. Indio won the First Annual 2005, NYC ONE FESTIVAL for his play MANCHILD DILEMMA.
He was also nominated for a 2001 Latin ACE Award “Supporting Actor” for his portrayal of “Miguel” in “Vieques” Repertorio Espanol, NYC.
Indio is a recipient of the 2008 HOLA award “Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble Cast” for Dona Flor Y Sus Dos Maridos, Repertorio Espanol, NYC His T.V. credits include Amazon Pilot Hialeah Dade Fucking County, Season 2-Orange is The New Black, and Law and Order S.V.U.
